Jeff Siegel

Jeff Siegel's racing resume is unparalleled, his experience unmatched. Since 1978 Siegel has been picking winners; first as a syndicated handicapper for six L.A. area newspapers including the Los Angeles Times and San Diego Union Tribune, then as co-owner with Bob Selvin and owner of Handicapper's Report, the first-of-its-kind, a very successful, innovative publication that provided speed ratings and trip notes on the Southern California racing scene, and finally as Bob's partner in National Turf.
After graduating with a degree in journalism from San Jose State University, Siegel was hired as a radio news and sports reporter by KLAC, where he worked for the legendary Jim Healy. It was Healy who was instrumental in helping Siegel land his first race track job as a publicity assistant at Hollywood Park in the early 1970s.
Siegel purchased his first runner in 1975. He bred and raced 1988 California-bred champion 3-year-old Aloha Prospector and it was through his recommendation that Wishing Well - dam of Sunday Silence - was claimed for $32,000 before winning major stakes and nearly a half million dollars for trainer Gary Jones. Soon after he, along with Barry Irwin, co-founded Clover Racing Stable and then Team Valor, whose syndicated runners have won more than 75 stakes races, earned more than $30 million, and captured some of the world's most prestigious races including the Breeders' Cup Turf, Arlington Million, Santa Anita Handicap, Santa Anita Derby, Molson Million, and Dubai Duty Free on Dubai World Cup Day.
Additionally, Siegel has been a fixture on television in California for many years, first as co-host with Bob for almost five years of the "Handicapper's Report" TV show seen throughout Southern California and at Santa Anita Park. He shares his vast racing knowledge on a daily basis as an on-air analyst for HRTV, a 24-hour horse racing station available nationwide on DISH network and various cable systems. Siegel helped anchor HRTVs extensive on-site coverage of the 2002 and 2003 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico and the 2004 Breeders Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Lone Star Park.
